Laurel Wamsley Joins Newsdesk Full-Time

In a note to newsroom staff, Deputy Managing Editor Gerry Holmes, the NPR Newsdesk and Two-Way teams announced the staffing update.

We're delighted to share some exciting news today.

NPR's Visuals Team, specifically the Video team, had a formidable showing at the White House News Photographers Association's "2018 Eyes of History: Multimedia Contest" over the weekend. According to the association's website, "The Eyes of History contests are held annually to select the best in visual journalism across still, video, and multimedia disciplines."

The NPR Visuals team racked up a total of 12 awards across the nine categories.

In a note to newsroom staff, Senior Washington Desk Editor Beth Donovan announced updates and additions to the team.

All – In preparation for the 2018 election, the Washington Desk will once again add to its staff, this time with two political reporters and an editor.

This year brought a wide range of news events and NPR's Instagram audience responded. With a mix of still images and videos, we gained about 350,000 new followers and surpassed our engagement goals in 2017.

Our Instagram philosophy is to share a mix of NPR stories from a variety of topics each day. Breaking news and politics led the top 10 posts of the year but our audience also gravitated to features including baby boxes, a favorite dish from Iran and a lesson on Native American treaties.

KUAR 89.1 and Arkansas Public Media won fourteen Diamond Journalism Awards, a regional competition sponsored by the Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The awards recognize outstanding journalism by professionals and students from Arkansas and bordering media markets in Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. This year’s competition was judged by journalists from the Florida Pro Chapter of SPJ.
