Ex-Girlfriend Of Man Charged In Death Of Toddler Also Arrested

Malik Drummond

Police say the ex-girlfriend of a man facing capital murder charges in the death of his son was released on her own recognizance because of medical reasons.

They gave no details. Court officials say Lesley Marcotte will likely have a first court appearance Friday.

Police had said earlier Thursday that Marcotte was being booked into the White County jail on preliminary charges of hindering apprehension. She is charged with preventing the arrest of 43-year-old Jeffery Clifton, who is facing capital murder and abuse of a corpse charges in the death of his 2-year-old son, Malik Drummond.

Sgt. Steve Hernandez says police found what they believe is Malik's body Wednesday after Clifton agreed to lead them to the location about 100 miles northeast of Little Rock.

Malik was reported missing in November 2014, but Marcotte told police the story was fabricated. She says the boy died three days earlier from injuries after Clifton beat him. Clifton is being held without bond and court records show he is due in court for a plea and arraignment hearing on Jan. 5.
