Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will be campaigning in North Little Rock next week. It’s his second visit to Arkansas in recent months, and comes as the Senator from Texas has seen a surge in polling recently, even surpassing Donald Trump in Iowa.
His campaign says Cruz will be speaking next Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. at a "Take Off With Ted" rally at the Apostolic Church of North Little Rock at 4314 Landers Road. His last visit to the area was in August when he spoke in Little Rock.
An increasing number of evangelicals have been rallying behind Cruz's campaign and there’s more attention on him from political observers heading into Tuesday night’s Republican debate, which is the first in a month.
It also comes as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has failed to get more than a few percentage points in polling, which will again keep him from taking part in the prime time debate Tuesday.
On Monday, Huckabee's communication director told Politico that she had left his campaign. Alice Stewart did not give a reason why. She had previously worked for Huckabee when he was governor of Arkansas and on his 2008 presidential campaign.
Stewart also worked on the 2012 campaigns of Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann, then hosted a short-lived radio show on a Little Rock station.
