Classical music is often based on works of art. 

Moussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is probably the best known example, but the list is extensive, and includes such as GuntherSchuller’sSeven Studies on Themes of Paul Klee, Rachmaninoff’sIsle of the Dead, based on a painting by Arnold Böcklin, and Goyescas, by Enrique Granados, inspired by the paintings of Goya.
