Incoming Little Rock School District Superintendent Michael Poore will begin work a little early, in a transitional role, beginning June 13. The Arkansas Department of Education made the announcement on Friday that Poore will join outgoing LRSD head Baker Kurrus in his final three weeks.

ADE says it will give the two men “the opportunity to collaborate on district matters prior to Poore starting as superintent.”

During that time Poore will be paid $12,000 or about one-third of the median annual income of a Little Rock household. Poore’s salary is $225,000 a year. Kurrus’s was $150,000.

Education Commissioner Johnny Key announced last month his decision to remove Kurrus at the end of his contract and to replace him with Poore who led Bentonville’s school district. Poore officially begins serving as LRSD Superintendent on July 1.
