Join us as we interview author and journalist Dave Eggers about his satirical allegory, The Captain and the Glory.
"I like being captain," said the man with the yellow feather. He was installed high on the bridge of the Glory, and surveyed the seas with swelling pride. The ship's passengers had elected him to steer the ship and he was very pleased about it. The supporters of the new Captain were pleased, too. In fact, they were jubilant. Never in their lifetimes had something like this happened. They felt triumphant and unstoppable and capable of doing anything.
Dave Eggers is the author of many books, including The Circle, The Monk of Mokha, What is the What, A Hologram for the King, and The Lifters.
Eggers is winner of the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award for Education, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the TED Prize, and has been a finalist for the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
He is founder of McSweeney's, an independent publishing company based in San Francisco that produces books, a humor website, and a journal of new writing, McSweeney's Quarterly Concern. McSweeney’s also publishes Voice of Witness, a nonprofit book series that uses oral history to illuminate human rights crises around the world.
He lives with his family in Northern California. They have no significant pets.

Thank you to musician Phil Davis, who created the soundscape. Ever since he first picked up a guitar at the age of twelve, Phil Davis has been serious about music. Born to missionary parents and raised in China, he learned how to lead a band as a teenager singing praise songs at his father's church.
Phil has been writing music since 2002 and has produced around 60 original arrangements. He's currently writing and singing for the Little Rock based indie rock band, New Motto, which is available on Spotify and Apple Music. His solo project is set to be released the fall of 2020 under the name Nouvella Tella.
Sea Nanners was a Central Arkansas band that loved to make songs together and to play those songs for people. The band included J.J. along with Phillip Rex Huddleston, Thom Asewicz, Clay Grubbs, Michael Inscoe, Brooks Tipton and Lee Petray. They have new projects including Way Away, Silver Anchors, and Brooks tours with Manchester Orchestra "or did back when bands were able to do things like that."
