Malcolm Glover, a reporter and KUAR's local host during Morning Edition, has won a Gracie Award for his reporting on female veterans.

The Gracie Award is presented by the Alliance for Women in the Media (AWM). The organization celebrates and honors exemplary programming created for women, by women or about women. The Gracies strive to encourage the realistic and faceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials, news, features and other programs.

“We hear a lot about the war stories of men, but I wanted to make sure we delved into the service and sacrifice of women in uniform as well," says Glover. "The story of Retired Army Colonel Diann Terry provides an intimate look at how the VA's services have changed over the course of three decades. Terry's experience shows us how the mental, physical and emotional needs of women in uniform are finally being addressed in a male-dominated military culture.”

Glover's award was in the Outstanding Soft News Feature category.

KUAR General Manager Ben Fry says it's been more than 15 years since the station received one of these honors. Fry says KUAR has a long and proud history of awards from the Alliance for Women in Media (formerly American Women in Radio and Television), going back to before they called the awards “Gracies” after radio personality Gracie Allen.

Jeanne Rollberg from the UALR School of Mass Communication produced programs for KUAR in the 1980s and 90s and won two first place awards and an honorable mention from AWRT. Avis Moore, KUAR's former business manager who produced some programming, also won a first place award. Ann Nicholson, host of KUAR's Arts Scene, won two honorable mentions in the 1990s from the organization. And, Fry himself won a first place award in 1994 with his co-producer Earnest Lamb for a documentary on the life of Florence Smith Price, an African-American composer from Arkansas.
