The Arkansas Department of Health says eight people have died from the flu in the state in the past week.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that as of Wednesday, 36 people have died from influenza in Arkansas this flu season. In the past week, there have been 90 flu-case hospital admissions.
State epidemiologist Dirk Haselow says the strain of virus continues to hit people ages 25-64 harder than past flu viruses. He says 27 of the state's 36 deaths have been in that age group.
Haselow says each flu season is a bit unpredictable, but on average they last about 12 weeks. He says there has been a slight decrease in cases recently but not enough to confirm that the season is winding down.
