The North Little Rock Police Department has identified an officer who shot and killed a man who allegedly assaulted the officer with a cane.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that the department on Friday identified the officer as Chris Gann, a 17-year veteran of the agency.
Police say Gann shot and killed 52-year-old Robert Storay of Little Rock after Gann responded to reports of a man causing a disturbance on a Central Arkansas Transit bus.
Police say Gann removed Storay from the bus and that Storay purportedly attacked Gann with a brass-and-wooden cane, which led to the shooting.
Gann was briefly hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack. He remains on administrative leave.
Police records indicate Storay had a history of "irrational behavior" and drug abuse.
