Republican U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton says an agreement with Iran aimed at dismantling its nuclear program is instead putting the world on the path to a "second nuclear age."
The freshman senator from Arkansas on Tuesday criticized the agreement struck by the U.S., Iran, and five world powers to dismantle most of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions in sanctions relief. Cotton said he believes there's still a chance for Congress to block the deal scheduled for a vote next month, even though supporters see momentum growing on their side in the Senate.
Cotton told members of the Political Animals Club that he believes the deal increases the risk of a nuclear attack against the U.S. and its allies.
