Panel To Investigate Treasurer Milligan, AG Rutledge Iowa Campaign Trips

Arkansas Times

A Little Rock attorney says the Arkansas Ethics Commission has opened an investigation into whether the state's attorney general and treasurer committed ethics violations by campaigning in Iowa last month for former Gov. Mike Huckabee as part of his now-suspended presidential campaign.

Matt Campbell says he received a certified letter from the commission Thursday saying it would investigate his complaint against Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and Treasurer Dennis Milligan for the trip they took around Jan. 27 through Feb. 1. The commission does not confirm investigations.

A spokesman for Rutledge said she received the letter and is reviewing it. A message left with the treasurer's office wasn't immediately returned.

The complaint cites state law that prohibits public officials from campaigning for another candidate during their offices' normal business hours.
