Attorneys for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland want to amend a lawsuit challenging Arkansas' abortion restrictions, including dropping a challenge to a law requiring abortion pill providers to follow U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
The motion filed Wednesday in federal court says the FDA changed its guidelines last month to mostly align with the current practices of Planned Parenthood. The organization asked to add an objection to a requirement that women have a follow- up visit two weeks after taking the abortion pill.
A federal judge earlier this year blocked Arkansas from enforcing the guidelines requirement and another law being challenged by Planned Parenthood that requires abortion pill providers to contract with a doctor with admitting privileges at a hospital who agrees to handle complications.
