Latosha Newman is an intern in KUAR News' fall 2019 intership program. She is a senior at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a major is Mass Communication with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in Applied Communication. Latosha is interested in a career in animation and aspires to work with Disney and Nickelodeon one day. Additionally, she has always been interested in radio and news. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with friends and her dog Lucky Red.

Arkansas State Fair

The 2019 Arkansas State Fair kicks off Friday, running through Sunday, Oct. 20. At the fairgrounds along Roosevelt Road in Little Rock, rides are being assembled and game booths set up. General Manager Doug White says several new rides will be among the more than 60 rides on the midway.

Last year, six days of rain hurt attendance, he said. The fair typically averages 400,000 to 450,000 people each year. This year, White is hoping to exceed that.

A weekend commemoration marked the turbulent integration of Little Rock’s Central High School. The event, held at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, was called “Retracing the Footsteps of History Makers,” with members of the Little Rock Nine talking about what is was like attending the school.


After months of relatively dry weather, parts of Arkansas are now seeing an increased threat from wildfires. The National Weather Service says burn bans have been put in place as the wildfire danger has been going up, primarily affecting the southern half of the state.
