Anderson Institute @ 10: Civil Rights Trail

This summer marks the tenth anniversary of the UA Little Rock Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity. Among its many signal achievements, the Anderson Institute founded the Arkansas Civil Rights Heritage Trail in partnership with the City of Little Rock and East Harding Construction. The Trail runs from the Old State House to Downtown Little Rock and commemorates and celebrates key figures in Arkansas civil rights history, including the Little Rock Nine, the Elaine Twelve, Freedom Riders, student activists, and civil rights attorneys and politicians. In 2016, the Trail won the Arkansas Historical Association’s Diamond Award, its highest award for a public history project. In 2018, it was incorporated onto the national U.S. Civil Rights Trail.
