Arkansas Governor Rings In NYSE On Boosterism Tour

Governor Asa Hutchinson rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday. The governor says it is part of an economic development trip to boost Arkansas’s profile and lure investment.

Hutchinson’s stop on Wall Street was followed by appearances on CNBC and Fox Business touting his push for computer coding education among other things. The governor’s office said a slew of other media appearances are also planned

Mr. Hutchinson is making another out of state trip January 21-22 to Las Vegas to talk with firearms and hunting goods manufacturers. Hutchinson announced the goals of the Nevada SHOT trade show trip to reporters on January 6.

“All of the major firearm manufactures will be present at that show. It is my intention to follow up on calls that I’ve previously made to support, to recruit, to show that Arkansas is a good place for firearms manufacturers to do business,” said Hutchinson.

In 2013 prior to taking to his gubernatorial bid Hutchinson worked for the National Rifle Association on a school safety task force put together after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newton, Connecticut.

During his gubernatorial campaign Hutchinson emphasized his intention to reach out directly to companies and to try and lift Arkansas’s reputation as business-friendly. In 2015 the governor traveled to Cuba, China, Silicon Valley, and Europe.
