Community Development Minute: The Oak Forest Community Garden

Did you know that community gardens provide many environmental and social benefits to residents within a community? Well they do! Community gardens help foster benefits including but not limited to: social interactions and engagement with neighbors, increased access to healthy foods, a connection of mind, body, with nature, and contributes to cultivating a thriving community.

The Oak Forest Community Garden serves the University District community—the neighborhoods surrounding the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The University District Development Corporation (UDDC) supports the Oak Forest community garden by ensuring university district residents have the opportunity to own a gardening plot, participate in gardening related events, and encourages residents to take part in growing their own food in an effort to promote health and wellness within the community.
