Arkansas continued setting records for the coronavirus pandemic Monday, with the number of one-day new hospitalizations and active cases. The two records are not a surprise considering the high number of new daily COVID cases reported in recent days.
Monday’s report by the state Department of Health showed an increase of 45 hospitalizations to 786. The number of active cases reaching 9,957, up from 9,833 on Sunday.
Total known cumulative COVID cases – confirmed with PCR tests and probable through rapid testing – rose by 945 on Monday to 122,811. Total deaths rose by 23 to 2,108.
“We continue to see a high level of hospitalizations across the state. This increase can affect everyone, even those who have not contracted COVID-19. We all have a responsibility to our friends, family and neighbors to do our part as we fight this virus,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in a statement.
The department on Monday updated its report on COVID cases in educational institutions. The update showed an increase in active cases in public schools, private schools and colleges and universities. The increase in active cases in public schools was up almost 13% compared with Nov. 5.

The top five counties with new known cases reported Monday were: Pulaski (128), Washington (79), Independence (75), Sebastian (56) and Benton (49). The counties accounted for 46.7% of the 828 new community cases.
As of Monday at 1 p.m., there were 10,018,278 U.S. cases and 237,742 deaths. Globally, there were 50,715,936 cases and 1,259,976 deaths.
