The Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock is celebrating Presidents Day with free admission on Monday. The only other day during the year that it offers free admission is in August to celebrate former President Bill Clinton’s birthday.
All temporary and permanent exhibits are open, including the recently unveiled "Mighty Mississippi: A Mosaic of America’s Growth."
Spokeswoman Rebecca Tennille says the exhibit is a great opportunity to see what the presidential library has to offer.
"It's got a couple first editions of Mark Twain books. It's got a Norman Rockwell lithograph, its got musical instruments from some of the musicians who really brought about the blues in Arkansas," Tennille said.
Another exhibit, she said, is also proving to be popular.
"The White House collection of American Craft, which is the 25th anniversary exhibit. It was first created in the White House under the Clinton’s direction and it's a very cool collection of American Craft Art."
The presidential library offers a variety of special events, exhibitions, educational programs, and lectures throughout the year and is among the top tourist draws to central Arkansas. It’s Monday- Satrudayfrom 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Meanwhile a recent ranking by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation placed Arkansas 49th compared to the rest of the nation when it comes to knowledge about American History. The study found only 30 percent of Arkansans earned a passing grade on history questions from the U.S. citizenship test.
