Rep. Rick Crawford Re-Elected To 1st District House Seat

Republican congressman Rick Crawford has been elected to his third term representing eastern Arkansas in the U.S. House.

Crawford defeated Democrat Jackie McPherson and Libertarian Brian Willhite in Tuesday's election. The 1st Congressional District includes most of the Mississippi River Delta region and stretches west to include portions of the Ozarks.

Crawford was elected four years ago partly on a vow to fight the federal health care law. He has regularly voted for its repeal with fellow House Republicans. He also gained notoriety for his proposal two years ago to levy a surtax on millionaires in exchange for a balanced federal budget amendment.

McPherson has served as mayor of Heber Springs for eight years. He ran on a platform of job creation, education and farming.
