Trustees for the University of Arkansas have unanimously approved the hiring of a new chancellor at the school's Fayetteville campus.
Joseph Steinmetz has been Ohio State's executive vice president and provost since 2013. The University of Arkansas System office said UA trustees voted Friday to approve his appointment.
The U of A System had said previously that it would introduce Steinmetz to the community at a ceremony Oct. 30 and that he would start his new job Jan. 1.
Steinmetz was previously dean of the college of liberal arts and sciences at the University of Kansas, and also was a distinguished professor of psychological and brain sciences at Indiana.
He replaces G. David Gearhart, who retired this summer.
