The Metropolitan Opera's 2014-2015 season is set to begin Mon., Sept. 22 with a performance of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro? conducted by Met Music Director James Levine.
There are several points to note about the Met's upcoming season:
- Levine will conduct six opera performances this season, doubling his schedule over the 2013-2014 season. “My return to the company has been one of the most joyful experiences of my life, and I’m delighted to resume a full working schedule of six operas next season for the first time in several years,” said Levine. Levine is recovering from a spinal injury.
- The Met will perform for the first time John Adams's The Death of Klinghoffer, a controversial opera based on a 1985 hijacking.
- This season's schedule is receiving measured praise.
KLRE Classical 90.5 carries The Metropolitan Opera Saturdays beginning at noon during its performance season.
