All brand new releases this week including a double CD from singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Richard Thompson who made his Little Rock debut May 3rd 1989 at the long gone Arkajun House which led to the founding of Little Rock Folk Club shortly thereafter; a double CD from multi-instrumentalist Martin Simpson, who has added serious songwriter to his already impressive resume; Canadian Ottawa Valley traditional style fiddle virtuoso, and step dancer, April Verch who adds a Loretta Lynn song to her latest CD which also includes contributions from fellow band members Cody Walters and Hayes Griffin; Old Time and Blue Grass phenom Alice Gerrard with her first album in 10 years and her first album in a 40 year trail-blazing career comprising all self-penned songs; and Mandolin Orange a North Carolina band comprising the duo of Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz who brew a heady concoction containing elements and influences from blues, classic country, traditional Southern Appalachia and rock seasoned with lyrics that reference the Bible with a view to invoking joy and freedom rather than fire and brimstone-induced fear.
