Arkansas Trails is a series of 1-minute spots on hiking, biking, and paddling in the Natural State. The series is created by Johnnie Chamberlin, the author of Trails of Central Arkansas and Trails of Little Rock. Johnnie has a website, TrailsofArkansas.com, and a Twitter Feed. The theme song for Arkansas Trails is performed by the Arkansas band The Cons of Formant.

Village Creek State Park

Village Creek State Park

Located on Crowley's Ridge, Village Creek State Park has numerous trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. The park is the second largest in the state and offers swimming, golf, fishing, boat rentals, and camping. There are also basketball and tennis courts.

The ridge's unique soils and high elevation compared to surrounding floodplains and deltas allow it to support species not commonly found elsewhere in the state. It is interesting to find a forest full of tulip trees, sugar maples, and beeches here in Arkansas as these are more common farther north.

If you visit, ask for a brochure with information on plants and the local ecosystem to get the most out of your experience.
