As many of you know, music is at the heart of much of our storytelling, and we typically feature singers, songwriters and musicians from Arkansas and across the mid-south.

This episode aired Friday, July 26th at 7:00pm cst, and Sunday, July 28th at 9:00pm cst.

Season Five found us working with several new artists as well as some old favorites.

From “Bookmarked with Steve Yarbrough”:

  • “Angel 42” by Charleston-based The Artisanals and their 2018 debut self-titled album
  • Fun fact, this episode also has original music from author Steve Yarbrough
  • “Blood Still Here in My Veins” is from Central Arkansas artist Amy Garlandfrom her 2013 album Hang a Light

From “Fierce Solitude”:

  • “Tossin ‘n’ Turnin” from Memphis singer songwriter Grace Askew, from her 2010 album Until They Lay Me Down to Rest

From “The River Whispers Her Name”:

  • "Fishing At Midnight" by A&L frequent contributors, The Damsels in Distress--the husband and wife duo of Lauren & Micah Sukany. Fun fact, the A&L theme song is also by The Damsels in Distress

From “Marvel, Wonder and Surprise”:

  • “The Cowboy Kind” byGrace Askew. Check out her song a day challenge on her Facebook or Instagram account

From “Because You’ve Never Died Before”:

  • “Base Pay” by the Arkansas duo Handmade Moments, Anna Moss & Joel Ludford, from their 2015 album Eye In the Sky. Fun fact, Joel was an intern at KUAR's sister station KLRE Classic here at UA Little Rock Public Radio
  • “Unfolding” from Houston-based band Folk Family Revival from their debut 2011 album of the same title. Fun fact, A&L has a recent Facebook Live video featuring and interview with the band!

From “She was of the River, Parts I & II”:

  • “Arizona Fire” by Becca Mancari, an American folk musician based in Nashville and from Mancari’s 2017 debut solo album Good Woman
  • “River of Joy” by Bonnie Bishop from her 2019 album House Sessions, Vol 1. Fun fact, we met Bishop in the fall of 2018 when she performed at Stickyz Rock "n" Roll Chicken Shack
  • “Girl From the River” an original ballad written and performed by Arkansas native S. J. Tucker. For more information on the documentary, check out the Helen Spence Project on Facebook
