A Guided Tour of the Historic Cane Hill Museum
Walk with us as we explore the Historic Cane Hill Museum.
This show is our second in a series of two episodes. The first episode, "Still On Cane Hill," explored the musical project "Cane Hill" written by folk duo Kelly and Donna Mulhullan of Still On The Hill.
In this episode of Arts & Letters, we take a guided tour of the Historic Cane Hill Museum with Lawrence McElroy, Museum Curator and Director of Arts and Culture of Historic Cane Hill, Inc.
We explore artifacts and stories of the Northwest Arkansas town, which was once one of the most densely populated towns in the American west. Settled in the late 1820's, the town became a burgeoning center of farming, commerce, and education.
Cane Hill was a town of firsts for the state of Arkansas: the first college; the first public library; the first college to admit women; and, the first Sunday School.
Join us as we learn about the town's history including its commerce, the rise of the apple industry, and even the rumor that Jessie James robbed the local bank.
Over the last 10 years, there has been considerable activity and investment by the historic commission of Cane Hill to preserve and restore the remaining historic buildings and houses. Each year, the Cane Hill Harvest Festival attracts thousands of visitors to the area.
Coming Soon: A Song by Still On The Hill featured in the episode.
