Arts Scene: "COVID In Black" At The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center

Mosaic Templars Cultural Center

If you've heard the news in the past few months, you've probably heard that we're "living in historic times." But what exactly does that mean?

While we generally think of history as the past, a new project by Little Rock's Mosaic Templars Cultural Center reminds us that history is all around us, even today.

"COVID In Black: The African-American Experience In Arkansas" seeks to preserve the present for the benefit of the future. The project, supported in part by the Arkansas Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the U.S. Congress, calls on Black Arkansans for submissions of items that may seem everyday, but underscore the the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on minority populations.

Arts Scene caught up with Mosaic Templars Cultural Center Executive Director Christina Shutt to talk about the project, and what messages she hopes future historians will take away from today's historical artifacts.

Arkansans can submit their donations to the project via Facebook or by emailing
