Arts organizations and audiences have been deprived of a performance experience during the pandemic. But, in the words of the immortal Freddie Mercury, the show must go on.
Ballet Arkansas and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra have heeded the call, and are presenting a collaborative performance adapted to the new normal in which we all live.
"First Round" features dancers and musicians in an outdoor setting in downtown Little Rock, completely free-of-charge. It features performances set to three works of music; "Last Round" by Osvaldo Golijov, Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings," and "Magic Box" by Augusta Read Thomas.
Arts Scene spoke with Ballet Arkansas Associate Artistic Director Catherine Fothergill about the groundbreaking performance, as well as one of the company's dancers, Hannah Bradshaw, who also helped with the show's choreography.
The performance is set for Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. at the corner of 6th and Main in Little Rock. You can reserve your spot on the waiting list here.
