Gov. Mike Beebe has named a Searcy man to the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees to replace Tyson Foods chairman John Tyson, who resigned last month.
Beebe named 63-year-old John "Reynie" Rutledge to the board on Friday.
Rutledge is chairman and CEO of First Security Bank. He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas and currently serves on the Walton College Executive Advisory Board and the UAMS Foundation Board.
Rutledge's appointment expires March 1, 2017.
Tyson resigned from the board last month after expressing what Tyson called frustration with the board's "inability to make meaningful change" in higher education in Arkansas.
Beebe also appointed Bob Burns of Little Rock to replace Steve Smith on the Arkansas State Police Commission. His appointment expires January 14, 2020.
