A judge has set a July hearing for a man charged in the death of a Conway police officer who was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic.
Circuit Judge Charles E. Clawson Jr. scheduled a July 23 hearing for 31-year-old Barry Strickland, who is charged with battery and driving while intoxicated.
Strickland is accused in the Feb. 1 death of Officer William McGary, who was struck at night on Dave Ward Drive.
The Log Cabin Democrat reports that during a hearing last week, a toxicology report showed Strickland had no alcohol or non-prescribed drugs in his system at the time of the accident.
The defense says Strickland, who is an Iraq war veteran, had taken drugs that were prescribed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder.
