Little Rock officials say Kenton Buckner will become the city's next chief of police.
Buckner, who currently serves as assistant chief of the Louisville, Kentucky, police department, will become the 37th leader of the Little Rock department, which was established in 1866.
He succeeds Stuart Thomas, who is retiring at the end of June after serving as chief since 2005.
Buckner's first day on the job in Little Rock will be June 30. Buckner joined the Louisville police department in 1993 and has held the rank of assistant chief since 2011. He oversees major crimes, narcotics, intelligence and special operations.
