UPDATE: Senators Boozman & Pryor Support President's Airstrike Plan In Iraq

Republican Senator John Boozman said Friday he supports airstrikes in Iraq. His comments came after the first airstrikes were delivered against a fundamentalist Sunni militant group – ISIS - that is rapidly expanding their territory in Iraq and threatening to overtake key government cities.

“I support the President and what he’s doing. We know who this enemy is it’s not like Syria where you don’t really know who you’re dealing with. This is a clear cut thing; certainly ISIS have proved their bad guys. We’re doing two things. We’re protecting the service people that we have and then also protecting the Christians and this other sect and ISIS appears to be set on actual genocide,” said Boozman.

The airstrikes, likely the first of many to come, were located in northern Iraq near the Kurdish city of Erbil.

UPDATE From Senator Mark Pryor (D):

"I commend the troops who at great risk to themselves delivered critical food and water to religious minorities trapped on Mount Sinjar. But like many Arkansans, I have serious reservations about the potential for escalating U.S. military involvement in Iraq. U.S. air strikes provide short-term relief, but the long-term solution to Iraq must come from the Iraqi government and people, not the U.S. military."
