Arkansas Army National Guard Proposes Closing 8 Armories

A plan to close eight Arkansas Army National Guard armories is scheduled to go before Governor Asa Hutchinson Thursday.

A Guard spokesman says no personnel would be cut and the property would be donated to the cities where they’re located.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the restructuring plan calls for closing armories, also known as readiness centers, in: 

  • Berryville
  • Blytheville
  • Brinkley
  • Crossett
  • Helena-West Helena
  • Rector
  • Walnut Ridge
  • Wynne

They were selected based on their age and how many people can be recruited in those areas. The plan would save the National Guard just over $300-thousand dollars a year.
