Questions Surround Man Shot Near Gate At Arkansas Air Base

Questions remain about the identity and intentions of an armed man who military officials say was shot and critically wounded after trying to drive into a sprawling Air Force base in Arkansas.

The commander of the Little Rock Air Force Base said two guards stationed at the base's main gate quickly recognized a threat when the civilian drove his SUV over a curb, crashed through a sign and began to exit his vehicle holding a rifle.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition, and his name hadn't been released early Tuesday. It wasn't immediately clear whether the man fired his weapon, how many shots were fired or if the man exchanged words with the two guards. Base officials said the FBI was leading the investigation into the shooting.
