State Police Looking At Faulkner County Clerk Records

Arkansas State Police are considering whether to look into how and when past-due statements of financial interest were filed in Faulkner County this year.

The Log Cabin Democrat newspaper in Conway reported Tuesday that Faulkner County wants state police to look into how the local clerk's office handled documents. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette said records it obtained showed that some documents were backdated.

State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said the county's request for an investigation is being considered.

The Little Rock newspaper said two statements were shown as filed on Jan. 33, and some documents appear to have been filed before a notary authenticated them. County Clerk Margaret Darter did not return messages seeking comment.

The Democrat-Gazette said many officials miss the Jan. 31 deadline and are rarely charged.
