A task force is recommending Arkansas continue using Common Core as the state reviews the controversial education standards and looks at changing and replacing them where needed.
The Governor's Council on Common Core Review on Thursday unanimously approved the recommendations regarding the standards. Gov. Asa Hutchinson formed the 17-member panel earlier this year and named Republican Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin to chair it. The council said Hutchinson should require a comprehensive review of the state's standards with the goal of revising, improving and replacing them as necessary.
The council said the review should ensure that the experience of the state's parents and educators are reflected in them.
The panel has held hearings around the state and last month it recommended the state drop a standardized test linked to Common Core.
