Suspect In Killing Arrested In Bryant After Escaping Jail

A suspect in a fatal shooting who escaped from the Ouachita County jail in Camden last week has been arrested in Bryant.

According to the Bryant Police Department, 19-year-old Austin Hill was captured near a gas station Monday. Lt. Jimmy Long said employees of a nearby business spotted Hill and called 911. Authorities said human error played a role in Hill's escape last Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, Hill jumped out of a van at the jail as it returned from a hospital. Officials said the gate was not immediately closed behind the van, giving Hill time to escape.

Officials also said a video shows Hill was not wearing the leg irons he had on when the van left the hospital.

Hill is charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery in the 2014 fatal shooting of 63-year-old Richard Anders.
