UA Athletic Director Says Razorback Losses Feel Like A Family Death

University of Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long at the Little Rock Touchdown Club.

University of Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long told the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Monday that back-to-back Razorback losses on the football field are hard for him too.

“I would be very concerned if we didn’t have the passion in this room, didn’t have people upset,” said Long. “Heck, I hate to make this comparison because it’s not fair but boy, after a loss it’s almost like someone passed away in the family. It feels that bad.”

The Razorback team, under its third-year with Coach Brett Bielema was ranked 18th in the nation before the season started. The team has fallen to 1-2, dropping its last two games at home to unranked, non-conference opponents.

Long directed a crowded room at Embassy Suites to one bright spot, a team average of a 2.8 GPA.

“I know that doesn’t take the place of wins, so I’m not suggesting that,” Long said to a smattering of chuckles. “We’ve succeeded academically, we’ll continue to grow and we’ll field winning football teams.”

He told the Little Rock Touchdown Club the same thing in September of 2014, crediting Bielema with boosting GPA from 2.4 to 2.8
