Arkansas AG Says She'll Join Multistate Investigation Of Volkswagen

Leslie Rutledge Attorney General
Talk Business & Politics

Arkansas' attorney general is joining a multistate investigation into Volkswagen amid allegations the company cheated on emissions tests.

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge says the company's actions were "simply wrong." Her investigation will center on whether any Arkansas consumers were harmed by VW's conduct. She said 28 other attorneys general were looking into whether Volkswagen violated consumer-protection laws.

The problem could affect 11 million diesel vehicles. VW has said software installed on them could be used to create false emissions test results.

German prosecutors said Monday that they, too, are investigating.

The company's chief operating officer resigned last week after the carmaker acknowledged it had rigged emissions tests. He said he quit "in the interests of the company" and said he was not aware of wrongdoing on his part.
