Arkansas forestry officials are warning that 30 counties in southern and central Arkansas are at a high risk for wildfires. Outdoor burning across the state is highly discouraged, with humidity expected to drop and winds expected to increase during the weekend.
Burn bans are expected to remain in place across much of Arkansas until the state receives significant rainfall. The Arkansas Forestry Commission said Friday that humidity is a primary factor in determining fire danger, and that wind impacts how fast a fire can spread.
Parts of Arkansas had an unusually dry September, with Little Rock picking up only 4 percent of its typical rainfall, and El Dorado and Pine Bluff registering just 1 percent, according to figures from the National Weather Service.
