The Arkansas Highway Commission has approved bids on multiple projects in the state, including a $16 million plan to widen U.S. 167 in northeast Arkansas.
Transportation officials announced Wednesday that construction will begin in the next month on the U.S. 167 project, which will widen a 4.5-mile stretch to four lanes near Cave City. The project is expected to be complete by mid-2017.
Other approved bids include $9.5 million to build a 1-mile stretch of Arkansas 162 and add a bridge over railroad tracks in Alma, $4.6 million to resurface the Interstate 40-Arkansas 365 intersection in Faulkner County and $2.9 million to install a cable median barrier on I-40 in St. Francis County.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the commission rejected bids on seven projects worth more than $71 million.
