The City of Marvell is hosting a free concert Saturday to fund raise for the restoration of the boyhood home of Levon Helm, former drummer of the The Band.
Marvell Mayor Clark Hall said the home will become a museum after it is restored in the style of Helm’s childhood. The town also hopes to erect a statue of Helm playing the drums.
"[The museum] represents lots of people who grew up in the Delta of Arkansas and went off and did well and had a prosperous life," he said. "We're using Levon as a chance to have a good, free concert."
The Levon Helm Down Home Jubilee will start at 7 Saturday, gates will open at 6. Batesville musician Danny Dozier will play and there will be food.
According to Hall, Helm’s friend, Anna Lee, of “take a load off Annie,” will be in attendance along with relatives of Helm. Helm died in 2012.
