School leaders in Jacksonville have approved a measure that will ask voters to increase their property taxes to pay for construction projects in the new district.
The Jacksonville/North Pulaski School Board voted Monday to ask voters for a 7.6-mill tax increase in a special election next February. If approved, the increase would amount to an extra $152 annually for a house worth $100,000.
The board also decided to build the district's new high school at the site of the vacant Jacksonville Middle School. Voters approved the creation of the new district last year, though it won't officially exist as a separate entity until next summer.
It was previously part of the Pulaski County Special School District, which remains under federal court supervision for its desegregation efforts.
