Journalist Was Lone Syrian Refugee To Stay In Arkansas

In September, the White House announced plans to process as many as ten thousand Syrian refugees. The U.S. State Department estimates that two thousand have been given asylum, since the Syrian civil war began in 2011.

But with the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, the process has halted.

To date, only one Syrian refugee, a journalist, has been processed in Arkansas. Jacqueline Froelich first interviewed 32-year old Omar Al-Muqdad after he first arrived in Fayetteville in 2012.

He’s now living in Alexandria, Virginia.
