The former head of Arkansas' Republican Party says he is running for lieutenant governor.

Doyle Webb said he will enter the race for lieutenant governor in an announcement Monday morning. Webb is a former state lawmaker from Benton and served as chair of the Republican Party of Arkansas from 2008 to 2020.

Webb was most recently named head of the redistricting team of Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, who is running for governor. He also served as chief of staff for late Republican Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller.

"I believe I am the most qualified candidate in the race, but I will not take Arkansan’s support for granted. I will be running a full-time campaign over the next year and a half, getting to every corner of the state I have come to know so well. As your next lieutenant governor I will fight for life, liberty, and lower taxes," Webb said, in a statement.

Two other Republicans, state Sen. Jason Rapert and Surgeon General Dr. Greg Bledsoe, have announced their bids for lieutenant governor in 2022. No Democrats have formally announced their candidacy.

Incumbent Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin had announced his candidacy for governor, but later dropped out and entered the race for attorney general.
