President Donald Trump has pardoned a former Arkansas lawmaker serving an eight-year sentence on corruption charges.

Trump issued the pardon to former Republican state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson on Wednesday. Hutchinson, the nephew of former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, pleaded guilty in 2019 to several charges including filing a false tax return and conspiracy to commit federal program bribery.

Hutchinson was part of a wide-ranging public corruption scandal involving several other state lawmakers. He was accused of taking bribes from Preferred Family Healthcare, a Missouri-based nonprofit, in exchange for directing state Medicaid dollars to them and supporting legislation friendly to the company.

Hutchinson was set to be released from prison in May 2029.
