A man has been arrested in connection with the killing of two people on a hiking trail in Northwest Arkansas last week.
Arkansas State Police say they arrested 28 year old James Andrew McGann Wednesday at a business in Springdale.
McGann is charged with capital murder in the deaths of Clinton and Cristen Brink. The couple was attacked last Saturday while hiking on a trail in Devil's Den state park with their two young children, who escaped the attack.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement after McGann's arrest, thanking the combined efforts of law enforcement and state park rangers in apprehending the suspect.
Before his arrest, McGann had an active teaching certificate. He served as a fifth grade teacher in Oklahoma elementary school.
The Associated Press reports that McGann had been hired at Springdale Public Schools as a candidate to teach in the upcoming year, but had not yet met with families or students.
McGann is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, August 1.
