At least two people were killed and multiple injured in a shooting Thursday evening at a gas station near UA Little Rock's main campus.
Little Rock Police say they responded to a shooting call around 5:18 p.m. Thursday at the Circle K at 6201 Colonel Glenn Road. Police said multiple suspects are in custody.
Speaking with reporters shortly before 7:00 p.m., Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. confirmed two people were killed. Scott described the incident as "disturbing," "frustrating" and "senseless."
"It's a crying shame that we are dealing with this matter right now. I'm grateful for the men and women of the LRPD and their swift response to detain the individuals who caused this senseless act of violence," Scott said.
"I'm pissed, to be quite frank, because I just had to have prayer with the wife of a husband of 44 years."
Acting LRPD Chief Michael "Joe" Miller did not provide specifics on the number of people injured or the number of suspects in custody, but said injured victims are being treated at various hospitals. A statement posted by LRPD on social media said three people are in critical condition, and that an investigation is ongoing.
The site of the shooting is at the southwest corner of Colonel Glenn Road and University Avenue, while the UA Little Rock campus sits at the northeast corner. The business was previously the site of a homicide in February 2024, where one person was killed and one injured.
The incident drew a large police presence, with police tape blocking off access to several neighboring businesses and an apartment complex on the north side of Colonel Glenn Road more than an hour after the shooting.
