Cortez is a Chief Photographer in the Texas Region (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana). He is a 2021 Pulitzer Prize recipient for anchoring a Breaking News Photography coverage package of the response to the murder of George Floyd. Cortez started with The AP in 2010.
