Little Rock voters will have their first chance in more than five years to select members of a locally-elected board to oversee the Little Rock School District.
The state Board of Education took over the district in 2015 as a result of six schools falling into the highest category of "academic distress." A draft memorandum of understanding released by the Arkansas Department of Education last year places some limits on the new school board, which will not be allowed to hire or fire the district's superintendent or recognize the Little Rock Education Association as the sole collective bargaining entity for the district's teachers.
KUAR spoke with all 19 candidates running to represent the city's nine zones on the Little Rock School Board. The candidates were all asked identical questions, and their reponses have been edited for length and clarity.
