“INTENTION & INTUITION” SAMMY PETERS EXHIBIT AT JUSTUS FINE ART GALLERY

(Hot Springs, AR)--A solo exhibit of work by respected Arkansas painter Sammy Peters will be held at Justus Fine Art Gallery October 6-31, 2023. Entitled “Intention & Intuition”, the show will feature a selection of Peters’ expressive abstract oil and mixed media paintings. The works combine loose painterly elements with layers of pattern, texture, and color. The opening reception will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, October 6 as part of the monthly Gallery Walk in downtown Hot Springs. A “Conversation with the Artist” will also be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the gallery. All events are free and open to the public.

Peters describes his work as a living dichotomy, straddling the line between ambiguity and rhythm. “My paintings have an intrinsic tempo within them that may not be obvious at first glance. I begin to sense the rhythm of the painting early in the work, and often that sense of rhythm asserts itself in devices like ladder shapes or stripes or polka dots or various marks,” said Peters. “The rhythm of the painting perpetuates itself and reasserts itself as I paint, and I just go along for the ride.”

Sammy Peters’ oil and mixed media paintings have been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the nation and abroad including recent solo and two-person exhibits at: LewAllen Contemporary in Santa Fe, NM (2017, 2015, 2013); Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX (2019); Mason Fine Art in Atlanta, GA (2018); the Galleries at Library Square in Little Rock, AR (2017); Memphis College of Art, TN (2016); the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, AR; Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR (2014); Alan Avery Art Company in Atlanta, GA (2013); LewAllen Contemporary in Scottsdale, AZ (2013); and others.
